This couple fell in love at the age of 15 and there was no turning back. On their 13th anniversary, Shashi proposed in Maui. Two years later, they exchanged vows in front of 108 friends and family in Mexico.

First resort: The couple was married at Paradisus, Los Cabos. Poonam says, “We chose a Paradisus resort as it was where we went for our first beach holiday nearly six years ago in the Dominican. We witnessed someone tying the knot and we looked at each other and said this is how we wanted to get married when the day came. So for sentimental reasons, we chose this chain.” The newlyweds hosted a Toronto reception when they returned home.

What a wardrobe: Shyamal and Bhumika created a non-traditional coral and green look for the ceremony, with Shashi’s outfit matching Poonam’s skirt. “We complete each other and fit like puzzle pieces and so we wanted our outfits to have the same sort of feel by having this unique combination,” says Poonam. Poonam also wore a Sherri Hill gown and after-party dresses by Giambattista Valli and H&M.

Some advice: “No one else will know if something has gone wrong, so try not to stress over little things that might not go as planned.”
